Welcome and thank you for visiting Monroeville Volunteer Fire Department #1.

The municipality of Monroeville is located approximately 12 miles east of the City of Pittsburgh in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania and covers approximately 20 square miles. Monroeville is comprised of single and multi-residential, retail, commercial, and industrial buildings. Populations range from 70,000-100,000 daylight, and over 30,000 nighttime. The Monroeville Fire Department is made up of five fire stations, which provide fire, ems, various phases of rescue services, and fire prevention / public education. The Monroeville Fire Department responds to a wide variety of incidents, both in Monroeville and also assisting neighboring communities. Station 1 is the oldest fire station in Monroeville, and began as Old Patton Twp. Fire Co. 1,which has evolved into Monroeville Fire Company #1 over 75 years. Station 1 provides 100% volunteer fire and rescue services, and combination paid / volunteer emergency medical services. Station 1 houses one 77' aerial quint, one heavy engine, a structural / technical rescue truck, two ALS/BLS ambulances, light-duty squad, chief's car.

STRIP MALL FIRE

Last night around 2330hrs stations 6,5,1 and CMD 32 were dispatched for a possible commercial structure fire, incoming units reported heavy smoke visible from rt 22. Engine 12 established supply line and took position on the front side of the bldg along with Truck 5. Initial attack crews stretched (2) 2.5in hand-lines while back up crews used 2in and 1 3/4 hand-lines. 2nd alarm was requested which brought company 4 and company 3. Shortly after that crews started to knock down the fire crews worked interior and on the roof until conditions were to dangerous. All units were then pulled from the bldg and exterior and master stream ops were established. Fire was under control in about 1hr of operations. No civilian injuries however 2 Monroeville firefighters were injured during the incident 1 was checked for smoke inhalation and 1 was transported to local trauma center after being struck vehicle a vehicle while attempting to connect water supply. Standby companies were assigned to the boro for assistance. Thanks to all Companies who assisted in Standby's.

SINGLE VEHICLE CRASH

Around 0200hrs this am Station 1 was dispatched for a single vehicle crash into a telephone pole. C-11 was onscene with 1 vehicle into pole with the driver out of the vehicle. A-19 was clearing the hospital and responded to check out the driver. Pt was evaluated and taken to local hospital. Company 1 cleared.

RESIDENTIAL HOUSE FIRE

This evening stations 3,6,1 and Truck 4 were dispatched for a possible residential house fire. E-12 arrived onscene with smoke and fire showing. Crews stretched (1) 2in and (1) 2.5in attack lines to the rear of the house. Crews extinguished fire in the kitchen area and checked for extension. Units operated onscene for a few hours.

COMPANY 1 CHRISTMAS PARTY

This evening the members of Monroeville FD 1 took a much needed night off. Members spent a relaxing night @ Palmieri's Restaurant in Turtle Creek. Special thanks to everybody how helped plan the party it was a great time, great food and as usual great gifts. Congrats to Carey Cole on winning the 4th annual Leather Helmet raffle.


 
MOTOR VEHICLE CRASH

Around 1330hrs today Station 1 was dispatched for a Motor Vehicle Crash with injuries on Mall Blvd. C-52 (Asst.Chief Gerstacker) was in the area when the call was dispatched and arrived onscene shortly after. C-52 arrived to find 2 vehicle 1 with moderate/heavy side damage. M-19 and E-12 arrived shortly after to start with treatment and containment. Command requested R-4 for a "door pop". Crews worked onscene for a short time. Pt was extracted and transported to local hospital. Units placed back in service.

SINGLE VEHICLE CRASH

Station 1 was dispatched to area or Old Northern Pike and Holt Lane for a single vehicle crash with injuries. M-18 was tied up on another detail so C-11 added next due station 6. While enrt M-18 cleared detail and responded to call. C-11 and M-18 both arrived to find single vehicle crash with moderate damage and 1 pt still in vehicle. Crews checked vehicle then gained access to pt. R-6 arrived onscene and handled fluid containment. M-18 removed pt from vehicle and transported to local hospital. Crews were onscene for almost 30min.

VEHICLE CRASH W/ INJURIES

Wdnesday evening Station 1 was dispatched for a vehicle crash with injuries.  Rescue 1, Medic 19, Ambulance 18 responded.  The call was upgraded to possible entrapment.  Medic 49 and Rescue 4 were added to the assignment.  Units arrived on scene to find a 2 vehicle crash with heavy damage, 1 vehicle on the roadway, 1 over a hillside into the old Wickes Furniture building.  C-12 (Asst. Chief Lieb) assumed Mall Blvd. Command.  There was no entrapment, 1 priority patient, and 2 non-priority patients.  Medic 19 assumed patient care of the priority patient (over the hillside) manpower from Rescue 1 and Rescue 4 assisted with removing the patient and moving to the ambulance. Medic 19 transported to Mercy trauma Center. Ambulance 18 and Medic 49 evaluated and transported the other two patients to Forbes Regional Hospital.  Rescue 1 put down oil dry and stood by until the vehicles were removed.  The building was asessed for structural damage, none found.  Command was terminated, Station 1 units returned to service.

Around 1030hrs today Monroeville Communication received a call from Westmorland Communication about a large fuel leak/spill in Murrysville. Units were dispatched to Alpine Village area of town to check creek area. Crews staged in the area set up equipment in creek for precautions. Crews were onscene for about 1hr before being released.

MONROEVILLE FD PATICIPATES IN HISTORIC TRAINING

Monroeville FD would like to thank CCAC, Allegheny County Fire Academy, State Fire Office and the Monroeville Fire Chiefs for the training session that was held in Monroeville over the past 2 weekends.

Monroeville FD got the opportunity over the past 2 weekends to participate in a training drill that doesn't happen very often. MFD was able to use the once Famous Palace Inn for live fire training. Crews were able to cover all aspects of fire ground ops from stand pipes, hose line management, search and rescue, forcible entry, aerial ops and command. Crews used a variety of MFD equipment from Engines, Tankers, Aerials, Air Truck and Command Truck.
