Members from 1, 3, 4, and 6 join together to build a wheel chair ramp.
As Volunteer Fire Fighters, we are always serving our community. However, this call was different. A local resident and long time family of Monroeville Fire Companies was in need of a wheel chair ramp; at their house.
After looking at the house, slope of the yard, and the street access we quickly realized that this was a bigger project than we original assumed. The ramp would need to “wrap around” the house so that they could park off the street; in order to access the ramp. We would need to build a small parking area as well.
We reached out to Lowes Home Improvement store. They offered to provide us with all the necessary materials and some technical expertise. Then we contacted Lincoln Way supply; who donated 3 ton of stone.
Day one – Several members cleared an area and created a gravel parking area. Lincoln Way Supply dropped 3 ton of 2B stone.
Day two – Lowes (Pro Services team member) Tom arranged for the delivery of all needed materials. He then directed us on how to properly layout and set the posts. This was the most critical part! We spend 5 hours just getting everything “square” and level.
Day three – Members from Companies, 3, 4, and 6 arrived to help us build this massive ramp. 7 hours later, the ramp was complete!
We are very proud that would could put our heads together and build this ramp, collectively, as a team and help this family in need! of
Thank you to everyone that made this project happen!
