National Night out - Monroeville style Tuesday, August 5, 2008 - Wow, thanks to the fantastic job by Monroeville's National Night Out Committee - this years was the best ever! The community really came out in great numbers to what was one of our communities largest events. Plenty of information for families as well as demo's and equipment displays, and some excellent food!  Our new Monroeville Community Park is the perfect place for such an event. It was a good time to come and mingle with the citizens, volunteers and Municipal Officials and Workers. As you will see in our pictures, this was the place to be that evening.

Captains Birthday Sunday, July 20, 2008 - Happy Birthday to Captain Scott Beltz and his twin brother Matt. Both Matt and Scott began their carriers of service at Company 1 as Junior FF while they attended High School and Vo-Tech. Scott serves as our Captain / EMT and Matt is a Chief Petty Officer / Corpsman in the U.S Navy. Happy birthday guy's, and thank you both for your service.

Company 1 helps other local fire compnay Friday, June 27, 2008 - Through networking, FF/Medic Eric "Sponge" Dawkins coordinated a donation of fire hose to neighboring Rosedale VFD, Penn Hills # 2. Company 1 donated some spare hose - two 50' sections of 3" and eight 50' sections of 2-1/2" hose. In conversations between the members of the two stations, we found that we had fire hose that they would put to good use. Sponge took care of the deal on our end and Greg Hendershot and Matt Strauss took care of things for Rosedale. We at Company 1 were glad to help out one of our neighboring Companies by donating some equipment they needed.  Good luck Rosedale VFD.

CHARLIE IS A NREMT-P! Monday, June 16, 2008 - Paramedic Charlie Bracken passed his National Registry EMT-P test today in Ohio. Charlie has accomplished the monumental goal of becoming a Paramedic. Chuck took the day and drove to Ohio to take the "written" test, and got the results shortly after he got back to the station. Charlie's next step is to get Medical Command from WPAHS. We congratulate Charlie and show our pride in his accomplishment. Charlie told the Chief that he is ready to get to work! Great job Charlie, glad your with us!

PASSING OF DENVER THE FIRE DOG Thursday, June 12, 2008 - It is with sadness that we say good-by to Denver the Fire Dog from Company 6. Denver was a lovable Great Dane with a Dalmation like coat. Always on watch at Station 6, Denver was a good dog. Rest in peace, Denver.

IT'S A BOY? YEP IT'S A BOY!!! Thursday, May 29, 2008 - Welcome Caleb Michael, we've been waiting for you! Caleb is the new son of Assistant Chief Jason Sonafelt and FF / EMT Angie Jones (MVFC6). Caleb arrived on scene at 1024h on May 29th at Magee Hospital Pittsburgh. There must have been a lot of traffic, as we believe he was "dispatched" about 9 months ago. Both Mother and baby are doing great! This makes C-10 the grandpap on the Chief's committee. Welcome Caleb, and best wishes!

CONGRATULATIONS TO KEN SHERMAN Thursday, May 22, 2008 - Comapny 1 would like to take this opportunity to congratulate one of our members. Ken Sherman has been a member at our station for the past three years. Ken has been enrolled in the Diesel Technology course at Forbes Road East Vo-Tech for the past three years and has been very successful in his willingness to learn the trade. In addition to all of his achievments he has been chosen to be his classes Salutatorian at FREAVTS, and is being recognized by Gateway Senior High School for his academic achievements. He has recently been hired at the Cleveland Brothers in New Stanton, and has been accepted to Penn Tech College in Williamsport, PA where he will further his education in the Diesel field on a scholarship from Cleveland Brothers. Congratulations Sherm, keep up the hard work.

EMS MEMBER GRADUATES FROM PARAMEDIC SCHOOL Thursday, May 22, 2008 - Charlie Bracken, one of our EMS members recently graduated from Paramedic school at The Center for Emergency Medicine in Pittsburgh. The membership of Company 1 congratulates Charlie on this accomplishment. Since joing us, Charlie has pulled more than his weight aroud the firehouse. We look forward to having Charlie as on of our Paramedics, and furthering his carrier with us. Great job Charlie!

CAR CRASH ON MONROEVILLE BLVD Sunday, March 16, 2008 - Company 1 responded after MPD came upon a two car crash on Monroeville Boulevard near Rudy's. MPD reported a patient in the car was unresponsive. M18 and Engine 12 responded. M18 treated and transported this patient to the Trauma Center, E12 assisted with extricating the patient, and with scene blocking and lighting.

COMMERCIAL BUILDING FIRE IN TURTLE CREEK Sunday, March 16, 2008 - At about 0300h this morning Company 1 was dispatched to a WSF in Turtle Creek, about 2 miles away from Station 1. Quint 1 and A18 responded (A18 was on the parkway returning from a call). On arrival Quint 1 laid in with 200' of 5" supply line, and ran multiple hand lines, then the aerial master stream. MVFD Tanker 5 was also dispatched to assist with water supply on the Monroeville side. TCVFD and the mutual aid companies fought this large fire for about five hours.       Quint 1 multiple lines and aerial up, Tanker 5 with more water

CONGRATULATIONS GETTYSBURG FD ON YOUR 200TH ANNIVERSARY Saturday, March 15, 2008 - This week the Gettysburg Fire Department celebrated it's 200th Anniversary. The week was topped off by the Anniversary Banquet at the Wyndham. We congratulate the GFD on this historic mile stone. Over 130 people attend the event including members, local politians, neighboring FD's and the public. We were treated to a three screen show of the history of the GFD, as well as member awards, and a great key note address by Dr. Denis O'Nieal, Superintendent of the National Fire Academy. Chief Mc Collum attended the banquet and would like to thank GFD President Timothy Braband, Chief Kenneth Kime,Jr. and Assistant Chief Allen Baldwin for being great hosts.

CONDOLENCES AND DEEPEST SYMPATHIES Saturday, March 15, 2008 - Company 1 expresses our condolences and deepest sympathies to the families and friends of two members of the MVFD. Tracy Lang of MVFC 3 and Lou Goldenson of MVFC 6 who both died tragically, and will be missed. We keep them in our prayers.

DOUBLE SHOOTING Saturday, March 15, 2008 - In the early morning on Saturday, M18 responded to a report of two people shot in the parking lot of a local restaurant. A medic unit from Station 4 was also dispatched due to A19 being out of service. M18 arrived to find two people down, shot. One person was DOA, the second was transported by M18 to the hospital and later died. R1 was on scene for six hours to provide lighting and assistance to investigators.

NEW AED'S ARRIVE Wednesday, March 12, 2008 - As part of the Monroeville Fire Chief's Committee efforts to provide for our Firefighters and our Comunity, Ten new AED's were added to the MFD. Each Company received two AED's that have been placed on various fire apparatus. Tha Philips Medical FR2 AED's share componants and work seamlessly with our new MRx 12-lead heart monitor/defibrillators. These AED's increase the chance of getting a cardiac arrest patient defibrillated ASAP.       Philips Medical FR2+ AED

FIREFIGHTERS ATTEND ANNUAL TRAINING AT UOVFRS Sunday, March 9, 2008 - Over the weekend (8,9 March 2008) Nine firefighters attended the annual training school at the Upper Ohio Valley Fire Rescue School in Brooke County WV. Those attending were in classes for Haz-Mat Operations, Engine Company, and Leadership. The classes were both lecture and hands on practal sessions. All participants earned certificates in their respective course. Those who stayed back in town, handled over a dozen fire and EMS calls, Thanks guys.
